Q: How do I know what product is suitable for a given application?
A: The product selection is based on comparing required or design transmissivity with allowable or product transmissivity. Transmissivity is a
measure of planar hydraulic capacity of a product and is numerically equal
to thickness times coefficient of hydraulic conductivity. This design
calculation must be performed by a qualified civil engineer.
Q: Is it necessary to specify the geotextile component
of geocomposite?
A: A drainage geocomposite consists of a geotextile laminated to one
or both sides of a geonet. Both geotextile and geonet components must be
included in project specifications. The geotextile is selected based on
filter requirements. Typically a 6 oz. or 8 oz. geotextile is used with
drainage geocomposites.
Q: How long can GSE geonets and geocomposites be left
exposed in direct Sunlight?
A: It is preferable to cover any geonets and geocomposites as soon as
possible. GSE recommends that geocomposites be covered within fifteen (15)
days and geonets within thirty (30) days. A maximum exposure of one month is
allowed on project basis with prior written approval by GSE.
Q: What type of equipment is allowed over GSE geonets
and geocomposites?
A: Only very light construction equipment can be used directly on GSE
geonets and geocomposites. A minimum soil cover must be maintained between
the geonets and geocomposites and construction equipment. All equipment used
on geonets and geocomposites must be approved by project design engineer.
Q: What is the appropriate method of joining adjacent
geonet and geocomposite panels?
A: Geonet panels can be joined by using plastic ties. Adjacent
geocomposite panels can be joined by heat seaming or sewing top geotextile.
In certain cases both geonet and geocomposite panels can be joined by simple
overlap. Site engineer must provide appropriate panel layout and joining
methods in project design and specifications.
Q: What are roll dimensions for GSE geonets and
geocomposites?
A: Roll and panel dimensions for all GSE products are provided on
product data sheets.
