Southwest Parkway in Austin, Texas, a 6-lane stretch of highway, has been problematic since the road was built in the mid 1980’s. One of the major problems on this 7,600 foot reconstruction project was a 2,940 foot section stretching west from the intersection at Terravista Dr. to the intersection at Belgrade Dr. This area was often exposed to rising ground water which would infiltrate and saturate the structural base course leading to chronic premature failure of the pavement.
