GSE recognizes that coal is America’s largest energy resource and an important part of our national energy strategy. GSE offers extensive geosynthetic manufacturing experience combined with highly technical professionals to ensure that your CCP impoundments are built to the highest regulatory standard.
In April 2015, the EPA published its long-awaited national regulations regarding the safe disposal of coal combustion residuals (CCRs), more commonly known as coal ash. Until then, the disposal of coal ash had been largely unregulated at the federal level. With these new standards come new challenges and long-term liabilities for owners and operators.
GSE specializes in projects requiring Subtitle D Solid Waste Regulations and Subtitle C Hazardous Materials Regulations. We have collaborated with leading utility companies to develop our coal ash containment systems, which outperform other Subtitle D constructions and ensure compliance with industry and regulatory requirements.
GSE supplied approximately 1,000,000 square feet of our innovative GSE Bentoliner CAR (Coal Ash Resistant) Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL) to a 3,520-megawatt Southeastern United States for the containment of wet process ash. The owner insisted that no GCL additives used be toxic or enhance any microbial growth in the surrounding soils and water table.
